Anime Trumps is a browser-based card game released by Ngames, a China-based gaming company behind Pockie Ninja.
Reviews:
It can be quite frustrating for a new gamer like me to play Anime Trumps. Like in most board games, Anime Trumps developers didn’t bother to design any dialogues between characters or any intriguing story. You select your image from the default characters inspired by Naruto, selecting among the Newbie Mode, 4-Player Mode, and 6-Player Mode, pick up a room where more players are needed, and you can start your game.
Had I got any experience in playing similar games released in Chinese, I may know what to do at first. But let’s be realistic. The only cards whose functions I figured out from the outset were Kill Cards, Dodge Cards, and Medicine Cards. I don’t know what to say. I’m sorry, Anime Trumps. Don’t take this the wrong way, but I personally don’t believe there can be any game more exotic than you. Yes, I do realize that being exotic is kind of sexy. For instance, I really yearn for a trip to the mysterious pyramids and to the romantic Champs Elysee. Nevertheless, how can I appreciate it when I went all the way through the game information only to find myself in confusion, thanks to the names of most cards being in English but never making sense in that very language? Maybe someone would say that as long as you remember those names and their functions and that won’t cause any problem. Well, try scores of them. The tutorial is very detailed or, in other words, it has too many details to offer, especially those concerning cards. 108 cards.
Sitting before the computer for hours, I barely did anything except reboot the PC and discarding cards. The signup is very easy but login is likely to cause confusion. Once your Internet is disconnected or you refresh the web page, you are forcefully required to log in the game again. Upon clicking the Game Start icon again, you will find the only two default options of email providers are Gmae321.com and MangaFox.com. In my case, I was upset but managed to sign up using another email address, and was later prompted that one account was already using this computer. It was all the same even when I exited from the Browser IE and then opened the website again. I had no choice but to power off the computer and then power it on. Guess what? This time I tried logging in using my first account ignoring the email address provider stuff. I succeeded, but it is weird.
Anyway, I sort of made it and played for several rounds in Newbie Mode. In each round of the game, four players are required: one is the Master, who is to kill the Betrayal and Rebel, one is Assistant, who is to protect the Master and kill the other two characters, one is Betrayal, who is to kill everyone except himself, and the last is Rebel, who is to assassinate the Master. The four roles are randomly assigned. During each round, it is known to all who is the Master, but nothing is provided beyond that. Most of the time, you can get tips from the system regarding what to do next. Or we can say most of the time you can only do what the system reminds you to do. It took me quite a while before I realized that peer players’ cards to a great extent limited my actions. Little by little, I finally understood the gameplay and started to enjoy the game. That was when I somehow, killed my Assistant in a round where I played as the Master.
Anime Trumps does feature beautiful animation and varieties of animated characters. But it is my conclusion that Anime Trumps is never a game to start your gaming adventure.
